Today I am going to share with you an amazing experience I had with the ladies of Blossom Workshops. The faces behind the in-person newborn posing and business workshops are Stevie Cruz of Stevie Cruz Photography and Meagan Ready of Meagan Ready Photography. I followed Stevie Cruz on Instagram and greatly admired her simple and beautiful child and newborn portraits. I was very excited when I found out that she had begun offering workshops in her Anaheim Hills Studio. I was doubly blessed that I also got to learn from her talented friend Meagan and co-creator of Blossom Workshops. Meagan’s studio is located in Tulsa, OK. It is amazing how the internet brings people together. The workshop I attended included 10 attendees, a lot of whom I still keep in contact with via Facebook and a private online mentoring page.
I didn’t really plan on going to a 2 day workshop, but when I saw what I would be learning I was sold. They taught me everything I needed to know about running a successful newborn photography business. We learned newborn posing, social media marketing, partner marketing, sales, pricing, vendor relationships, website building, as well as editing and shooting. I have been in business for 3 years & I am very comfortable with my camera & settings. However, I did need direction on how to use studio lights & what techniques are best when photographing newborns. I am confident that I learned from the best! Stevie and Meagan were both trained by leading newborn photographers in the nation, and now I can say I am too.
Even more than giving me a lot of valuable information and teaching me how to handle and pose newborns, they inspired me! I got to spend the day with 12 other ladies that shared the same passion I do, photographing families! Nothing gives me more pleasure than taking a photograph that a family will cherish for a lifetime. I was inspired to bring my business from a shoot and burn model to truly a custom boutique business. It is so important to print and display these special images, and I am so excited to now be offering custom artwork to my families.
Not only did I learn a lot. We had fun!!! Who doesn’t love pretty tables filled with tasty treats, swag, & blooming flowers!? Some of my photographer friends were surprised I went to an in-person workshop when there are so many options online. They asked if I was intimidated or nervous to attend. I wasn’t! Part of the reason is that Stevie and Meagan were always so positive and welcoming from the moment I connected with them.
The opportunity to observe the ladies interact with the moms, pose the babies, and photograph them was simply amazing! My only regret is that I did not attend this workshop sooner. I learned so many tricks that I never would have figured out trying to teach myself on my own. I think when we start out in business, we feel that we can’t invest too much on education because we can teach ourselves, and the equipment is so expensive. Education is just as important as the equipment! And if you are ready to take your business to the next level, I would definitely recommend Blossom Workshops.
After the workshop was over, I continue to stay in constant contact with my mentors & other ladies from the workshop. They are constantly inspiring my and keeping me accountable to my goals. Here are a few photographs I’ve taken recently. The improvement is amazing!
I think these images speak for themselves to the talent of Meagan and Stevie. Before the workshop, I had only attempted to pose 2 newborns. Thank you ladies! Your support means the world to me.
